12 Top Social Media Conferences in 2026-2027: An Insider's Guide

A working list of the social media conferences worth your time, with verified dates and an honest read on who each one is for.

Every year I get some version of the same email: “Which social media conference is actually worth it?” It’s a fair question. Budgets are tighter, travel approvals take longer, and the conference landscape shifts more than most people realize.

Full disclosure before we start: I produce one of the events on this list. I’ve also spent nearly two decades attending, speaking at, and studying the rest of them, so I’d rather give you an honest read than a polite one.

One thing worth knowing up front. Three of the biggest events on this list changed their names in the last two years, and two moved cities. If you’re working from a list you bookmarked a while ago, some of it is wrong. Here’s what’s accurate as of August 2026.

What changed recently

  • INBOUND is now UNBOUND – HubSpot renamed its flagship event after fifteen years
  • Creator Economy Expo (CEX) is now Content Entrepreneur Expo – and moved from Cleveland to Minneapolis
  • Influencer Marketing Show – CreatorFest – and the US edition appears to be gone
  • Social Media Marketing World (SMMW) left San Diego for Anaheim – after years of being synonymous with San Diego

How to pick the right one

Before you look at any list, get clear on which of these you actually need. Most people pick the wrong event because they never answered this question.

  • Tactics – You want to leave with a list of steps to try on Monday. Look for practitioner-led sessions and smaller rooms.
  • Strategy – You’re setting direction for a team or a year. You want case studies with real numbers and peers at your level.
  • Relationships – You’re hiring, selling, or looking for your next role. Optimize for who’s in the hallway and potentially larger event, not just what’s on stage.
  • Scale of exposure – You want to see where the industry is heading. Bigger events can provide a big scope, and some smaller event niche focus. Ask yourself who’s talking about what’s next?

A 50-person seminar and a 10l-person festival are different products. Neither is good or bad. They’re just built for different jobs.

The Social Media Conferences Worth Your Time in 2026 and 2027

UNBOUND (formerly INBOUND) – Sept. 2026

September 16-18, 2026 | Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, Boston, MA (2026 is sold out)

  • Best for: revenue teams where marketing, sales, and service sit together
  • Why it matters: HubSpot retired the INBOUND name after fifteen years. It’s less a social media conference than a go-to-market one, so treat it as adjacent rather than core. 2026 is sold out and there’s a 2027 presale list, but no 2027 dates yet.

Brandweek – Sept. 2026

September 15-17, 2026 | Atlanta, GA

  • Best for: senior brand marketers and CMO-track leaders
  • Why it matters: Adweek’s senior-level event. If you’re building a case for budget rather than building campaigns, the peer conversations here are the product.

Content Marketing World – Oct. 2026

October 5-7, 2026 | Colorado Convention Center, Denver, CO

  • Best for: content strategists and enterprise or B2B content leads
  • Why it matters: Content rather than social, but the overlap is large enough that plenty of social leads go. Note it’s in Denver now.

Creator Economy Live West – Jan. 2027

January 27-28, 2027 | CAESARS FORUM, Las Vegas, NV

  • Best for: brand-side influencer and creator marketers, and the agencies who serve them
  • Why it matters: Co-located with Affiliate Summit West, which means the performance and creator worlds are in the same building. If your creator program has a revenue target attached, that overlap is the reason to go. TikTok shop programs are the perfect overlap.

Social Fresh 2027 – Mar. 2027

March 23-25, 2027 | The William Vale, Brooklyn, New York

  • Average attendance: 300
  • Best for: social media/creator professionals and marketing decision makers at brands and agencies
  • Why it matters: This is our event, so weigh that accordingly. What I’ll say is that we built it around the thing we wanted and couldn’t find: real case studies from people doing the work, practical takeaways from each session, and a room small enough that you actually meet people as a community.

Social Media Marketing World – Apr. 2027

April 1-3, 2027 | Anaheim Convention Center, Anaheim, CA

  • Best for: small-business marketers, agency owners, and solo practitioners
  • Why it matters: The largest social media conference aimed at small business, now in its fourteenth year. Note the move to Anaheim.
  • Why it matters: SMMW covers a wide range of niche social and content topics so it’s not uncommon to find sessions on Pinterest, podcasting, or even blogging (yes, still important!)

CEX, the Content Entrepreneur Expo – Apr. 2027

April 19-21, 2027 | McNamara Alumni Center, Minneapolis, MN

  • Best for: solo content entrepreneurs, freelancers, coaches, and course creators
  • Price: early-bird pass around $599, with a VIP tier at $1,999 capped at 50 people
  • Why it matters: Renamed from Creator Economy Expo and relocated from Cleveland. Their own line is that it’s built for operators rather than influencers, which is a useful filter. If you run a team at a brand, this probably isn’t your event.

SocialDay – May 2027

May 18-19, 2027 | Protein Studios, Shoreditch, London

  • Average attendance: 650+, with 70+ speakers
  • Best for: hands-on social media managers and content strategists
  • Why it matters: A top practitioner-level social conference in the UK Their published audience mix is roughly 35% social media managers and 25% marketing directors.

Social Media Week – Spring 2027 [dates TBA]

2027 dates and location not yet announced | 2026 edition was April 14-16 in New York

  • Best for: brand-side social leads and agency strategists
  • Why it matters: Now an Adweek property, which gives it real media weight and some celebrity speakers. The presale page is live but still says location to be announced, so don’t plan travel around it yet.

VidCon Anaheim – Jul. 2027

July 8-10, 2027 | Anaheim Convention Center, Anaheim, CA

  • Best for: creators, platform teams, and brands buying creator media at scale
  • Why it matters: Part industry conference, part fan festival. The Industry track is genuinely valuable if you’re building creator partnerships, but understand you’re attending a very large event with a very different energy than a strategy conference.

CreatorFest Europe – Jul. 2027

July 13-14, 2027 | Magazine London, London

  • Best for: influencer marketing teams working in or expanding into Europe
  • Why it matters: This is the former Influencer Marketing Show. Worth flagging that the New York edition no longer appears on their calendar, so if you attended the US version before, this is now a transatlantic trip.

Social Media Strategies Summit – virtual, ongoing

Higher Education: October 26-28, 2026 | Public Agencies and Government: December 8-10, 2026 | both virtual

  • Best for: in-house social teams in higher education and government
  • Why it matters: Now entirely virtual, with no in-person editions on the calendar. That’s a real advantage if your travel budget is frozen, and a real drawback if you’re going for the hallway conversations.

A few that people still ask about

These come up constantly, and the honest answer is that they appear to be finished. Aggregator sites still list some of them, which is where the confusion comes from.

  • Playlist Live: no confirmed edition since the canceled 2023 event.
  • Social Media Camp (Victoria, BC): no clearly documented edition since 2019 that we can find.
  • The Social Shake-Up: no evidence of a current edition.

If you have current information on any of these, I’d genuinely like to hear it. This list gets updated.

Three things that make any conference worth more

  1. Show up a day early. The best conversations happen before the programming starts, when nobody has anywhere to be.
  2. Pick five people, not fifty sessions. Decide who you want to meet before you go. Sessions get recorded. Conversations don’t.
  3. Book ninety minutes the week after. Put it on the calendar before you leave. Everything you learned decays fast if you don’t turn it into a plan.

Whichever one you pick, go with a question you actually need answered. The people who get the most out of these events aren’t the ones taking the most notes. They’re the ones who showed up looking for something specific.

Dates verified August 2026. Conference schedules change, so confirm on the official site before booking travel. If you spot something out of date here, tell us and we’ll fix it.
