Research

A market research agency for brands that live online

Most market research agencies still ask people what they think. We study what they actually do: what they post, what they search, who they follow, and which competitor they mention when nobody is watching.

Research methods we use

Audience research

Who your customers are, what they care about, and the language they use when they describe your category to each other.

Competitive analysis

Where you sit against the brands you are actually compared to, and where the gap in the conversation is.

Social listening

What is being said about your category in public, at volume, over time. Not a sentiment score, a finding.

Voice of customer interviews

Direct conversations with your buyers about the decision they made and why. The quotes that end internal arguments.

Trend reports

What is changing in your category and what it means for your next quarter, updated as it moves.

Share of voice analysis

How much of the category conversation you own versus the brands beside you.

Credit Karma

6 years

Continuous research work

Quarterly State of Social trend briefings built for their team specifically. What changed, what it meant for Credit Karma, and what to do next quarter. Their social engagement grew every year we worked together.

HubSpot

5

Engagements over four years

Research programs on NFTs, Web3 and customer experience that HubSpot went on to publish as their own material. Client and conference sponsor both, which is the clearest signal of repeat trust we know how to give.

How a research engagement runs

  1. 1

    Agree the decision

We start from the decision the research has to inform, not from a methodology. If nobody can name the decision, the research will not get used.

  2. 2

    Gather from several angles

Social listening, competitive review, search behaviour and direct interviews. One source is an opinion. Four that agree is a finding.

  3. 3

    Find the disagreement

The value is usually where the data contradicts what the team already believes. We look for that on purpose rather than confirming the brief.

  4. 4

    Hand over something usable

A short set of findings with the evidence behind each one and what to do about it. You do not need a 90-page deck.

What it costs

Research is scoped to the decision it has to inform, so the ladder runs on what you are trying to find out rather than on hours. Three price points, and what sits at each.
